The Stars are Shining Bright Tonight
The project “The stars are shining bright tonight” arises from a marine map inscribed with personal records. This work combines ceramics, overglaze decals, found text, and artist's books to investigate the nature of printed materials and media transformations. It draws on oral memories of the ocean from several women and on printed materials collected from various regions. Using the marine map as a narrative vessel and route planning to connect small events, the piece encourages viewers to search for words and sentences adrift in the vast sea.
“The stars are shining bright tonight” is a book that brings together all the texts of the installation; it can be read as a documentary or as a very long poem. The book is in both Chinese and English.
